What is Transition?

The Division of Arkansas Rehabilitation Services' Transition Services program works to provide the opportunity for Rehabilitation Counselors and Schools to develop partnerships in their efforts to prepare high school students with disabilities with the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to achieve successful transition from high school to adult life. 

The Vocational Rehabilitation Transition Counselors (VRTC) will be assigned to work in the high schools.  The VRTC will also work to identify the family and community resources necessary to help the students gain the training and educational experiences they need to improve their transition outcomes as they prepare for life beyond high school.

Your In-School Vocational Rehabilitation Transition Counselor (VRTC) will be available to:

  • Work with the student to discover their interests and life goals

  • Work with the school to Discover the student’s strengths and weaknesses in an effort develop the student’s strengths.

  • Work with the family to Discover untapped resources that can be utilized to help facilitate training and development.

  • Work with the community to discover resources to support the student in their training and development.

  • Work with businesses, government agencies, and non-profit organizationsto discover job training opportunities.

  • Work with all identifiable resources necessary to help the student make a successful transition from high school to adult life.
